There is a papercut bug on Launchpad which asks whether the current way of handling archives too complicated for new users?
Let me express my experiences. I hardly double-click and open an archive since I know it would open the roller and then I would have to extract it, give the location and more loads of work. The way I work is right-click, “Extract Here”. It is a boon in disguise. Most users don’t want to use another archive manager as they are comfortable with the file explorer. Most of them want to view the contents in the explorer.
People resist change. Even Firefox awesome bar was critizied like hell, but the Firefox devs were didn’t budge. They added more finer control on the bar search and now no one complains. People get used to it.
What do you guys think? Is this a good idea?
